History of The White Horse Inn
The White Horse Inn was constructed by Tobias
Rustat at the end of the seventeenth century.
It was built as a coaching inn to take advantage
of the stagecoach traffic between Cambridge,
Colchester and Ipswich.
The pub was owned at the turn of the nineteenth
century by Mr and Mrs. Bradnam. Their son
married and emigrated to Australia - and
in 1908, their grandson, Donald George,
was born in Cootamundra, NSW.
The local registrar was unfamiliar with
the Suffolk name of Bradnam and wrote down
the baby as Donald George Bradman
in the register of births.
Don Bradman became Australia's greatest
sporting hero, famously averaging 99 in
first class cricket. |
